Debbie guessed the new sew-along from my post yesterday. The block with the gazillion pieces is the first one in Heather Briggs’ The Year of Strawberries 2026 sew-along. It turned out so darn cute, but wow, that was a heck of a lot of pieces and seam matching. I was hopping up and down from the sewing machine to the cutting table, measuring and trimming each of those little units to be sure that they all lined up like they were supposed to.
The January block and is adorable, and the peek I saw of the February block is as well. This kind of piecing does require focus, and I won’t lie, this block took me at least three hours, not including the hour it took to cut out the pieces.
This post is a quickie today, and I’m not certain I will be able to sew much, because Sara and I are doing our January podcast (talking about our best books of 2025), and I have to get the house tidied for the cleaners coming tomorrow!
Hope the week is going well for you all.

Thanks for sharing your work process. New sew along is just the berries! Will be fun to follow. Trying to find my next adventure. Probably simple patchwork. Have a good day!
There are a couple of sew alongs that are upcoming that have attracted my attention. But I also have a quilt I must make for my son that is high priority.
Well worth cutting all those pieces – it is a stunning block.
I should have counted the pieces, but I didn’t. I did use two sets of Alphabitties!
I admire all you accomplish and the strawberries are just too cute!
Had to chuckle at you tidying the house before the cleaners come. Me, too.
DH and I are trying to get over a bug we shared. Bother!
Germ-free hugs!
Oh, sorry to hear you have had a bug! We have been so lucky not to have picked up any colds or flu this winter. Fingers crossed. At our age, a cold can turn into something more serious and last for weeks and weeks.
Your time was well-spent on that adorable strawberry! 🍓 Enjoy your time with Sara today!
We just finished the podcast. We were so excited to chat about all the books!
That is one adorable strawberry block! But yeesh, I see what you mean by all those pieces and seams. You accomplished it beautifully and I look forward to the progress.
I suppose if I find the blocks too time-consuming, I can stop after three of them and make a table runner. I love having that option!
The strawberry block is so cute. Excited to listen to the podcast!!
We had so much fun chatting about books.
Your block is stunning, Nicole. I am always inspired by your piecing. Your fabric choice is also beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Erica. There were a lot of pieces, but the block came out pretty cute.
Well, that is a super cute block!
