Have you heard of Tilda fabrics? It is turning into a big sensation among so many of us quilters here in the US. I am beginning to see it everywhere, and was moved to purchase a fat eighth bundle of the latest collection Merry Little Christmas.

Tilda fabric, designed by Tone Finnanger of Norway, is known for its whimsical, romantic, and distinctly Scandinavian aesthetic. Launched in 1999 by Brewer Quilting and Sewing, the brand has become beloved worldwide for its soft color palettes, delicate florals, and vintage-inspired prints that feel both playful and timeless. Tilda fabrics often feature charming motifs like blossoms, leaves, and folk-art details, creating a cozy, handmade look perfect for quilting, sewing, and crafting projects. Its distinctive blend of nostalgia and Nordic simplicity makes Tilda a favorite among modern crafters and quilters.

At this point I kind of wish I’d bought the whole fat quarter bundle. That is seriously cute fabric.
It only came to my attention recently when Corey Yoder showed her Cali & Co sew-along blocks in two sets, one in her own fabrics, and another set of blocks using Tilda fabrics. I was intrigued by the design and colors and started looking into it. It turns out, as it often does, that this is something that has been around for a while and I am late to the party.
Have any of you sewn with Tilda fabric? Do you think it is as adorable as I do? I am not sure what I will make with this little bit of fabric, but a holiday table runner may be just the thing.

Perhaps you should purchase another fat eighth or a bundle of half yard pieces if it is still available. That way you have more options available to make. Lately if I purchase a precut of some sort, I purchase a few half yards to go with it, for borders or bindings. It causes me to store that precut differently because if they are not stored together I find the yardage and than wonder what precut I thought went with it.
I think that is a great suggestion Ginny. I need to at least look for a larger cut of fabric for a border, even if I do end up making a table runner.
Got the Merry Christmas fat quarters— blenders and 3 yards of the burgundy background on the way! Love Tilda— first discovered her in a Connecticut quilt shop in about 2018 or so. Patterns are all free— check out her website!
I need to get a larger piece to use as a border and binding, at the very least. Free patterns? I need to check that out right away.
I have used some Tilda fabrics and still have some in my stash. While I think they are very pretty, I’ve decided they are not worth the extra money for me. I’m apt to find new designers and my taste in fabrics keeps changing.
I hadn’t really considered the price, but you are right. Since the fabric is coming from Norway, I suppose we would pay more.
I have a fat quarter bundle of a previous Tilda collection, very bright colors, and am trying to figure out something to do with it.
I thought the way Corey Yoder used the Tilda fabric in the scrappy Cali & Co blocks was really effective. Truthfully, I think I liked the Tilda version better than her own fabric collection.
I recently discovered Tilda fabrics and made their Anniversary quilt pattern, free on their web site. I remember seeing the name Tilda, and thinking it was Tula Pink, a designer I am not fond of. Happily, I took a second look and explored their fabric lines. The Christmas collections are very pretty, the slightly softer reds and greens with a bit of teal are very appealing. I want to make the Winter birds quilt, https://www.tildasworld.com/free-patterns-collections/.
Must resist… I have been buying way too much fabric this month. It’s so pretty though, maybe just a few FQs.
I was similarly confused by the name, thinking it was Tula Pink. There is something unique about the Tilda prints. I love the tiny botanical blenders, and the whimsy of the prints. Thanks for the link to the Winter Birds pattern–I will check it out!
Nicole,
Tilda’s fabrics are lovely and fortunately for me, there is a quilt shop near me who carry lots of Tilda fabrics. As suggested above, definitely check out all her free patterns!
You are so fortunate to have a quilt shop near you. It is always so nice to see fabric in person before buying.
I’m excited to see what you make with your Tilda fabrics. I have a few kits, but I haven’t actually sewn with Tilda yet. It sure is pretty stuff!
I was looking on the website and they have a pattern called Winter Bird that is so pretty. I may get the kit for the pillow if they have one.
I followed the blog, now defunct, of Jennifer of Elefant, who did lovely handwork. She often used Tilda fabrics, and I went looking for them, because they were beautiful and she commented on the quality of the fabrics. Jennifer lives in Australia, so those fabrics were popular in other parts of the world. I’m glad they are gaining attention in the US.
It seems like there are three or four fabric companies that dominate the US market. It is refreshing to see something different from what those big companies offer.
Those fabrics are so soft looking! The tiny dots are especially calling my name! And kits? Gotta go! I’m off to see what’s offered!
The website has a lot of things that are tempting me too!
I have made 2 quilts with the soft red/blue combinations and have a third started waiting for borders.
https://exuberantcolor.blogspot.com/2025/05/april-2025-monthly-recap.html The one on the left is her Whimsey pattern which I though showed off the larger prints nicely. This third one is a simple one and still waiting for border inspiration. https://exuberantcolor.blogspot.com/2025/06/backings-cross-seams.html
I have a pack of her green/apricot colors that I haven’t used yet and am not sure if I’ll cave and get the Christmas fabrics.
How beautiful Wanda! That is a lot of triangles! Gorgeous color.
You should get the Christmas collection! You are on a roll with her fabrics.
Sweet fabrics and colors, but am trying to use up my stash so seldom buy new fabrics. I’ve already made an abundance of Christmas bed/wall/table quilts and DS1 and DIL prefer black, white, gray, and deep red. Sigh!
I look forward to seeing what you make with these yummy Tilda fabrics.
Hugs!
I shouldn’t be buying any more fabric either, but I had to have just a bit of this collection. It is so pretty.
I am still shopping too. I bought a new 30″ x 60″ cutting mat. I am just so pleased to have a larger mat. my new sewing room allowed me to move an old junky table in from the garage to become my new cutting table.
it isn’t helping that my husband has been encouraging me to buy what I want/need. I’m still working on my xmas quilt out of Fig Tree fabric. I bought off of IG from another quilter and got a great deal on it.
I need to dive into my FIg Tree fabrics soon. I have practically an entire shelf of them, plus two bins of leftover scraps in the garage.
New cutting mats are a must every few years. I should replace mine too.
Somehow my Olga mat is still going strong. I think it is 20+ years. I was not sewing all of those years, but the years I was, it was used a lot.
I ordered the Tilda fat quarter Christmas bundle (I think 20 pieces) and the blender bundle (I think 12). Thank you for mentioning this line. It is lovely.
I did not order border fabric.
I am going thru a spell where I like blocks set in white background, with slightly wider white sashing, and then white borders. I give my blocks a little more breathing room. I think, for me, it makes them more ageless.

I should try to figure out what I want to do with my Tilda fabric while I can still get my hands on something for a border. I am pretty sure I will do a table runner, so I won’t need much.
I made a quilt out of the Tilda new Christmas for my friend’s quilt shop as a sample. Absolutely adorable! I bought 1/2 yards of the entire line and I’m planning to make the santa quilt, I absolutely fell in love with!! She had the trunk show and seeing it in person knocked my socks off!!! Yesterday, I went to a local shop and purchased the Christmas Star Quilt kit, another cute quilt!! Her patterns are pretty intricate, so I need to get busy. The buttons she has to go with her lines are another must have!! I think a big selling point is the patterns are all free to download from her website, a total bonus and what a great marketing idea!!,
Free patterns are such a bonus! I need to download a couple of them and check them out. Thanks for the tip.
My niece just opened a fabric store and has Tilda fabrics. I purchase a fat quarter bundle to make a table topper. Can’t wait to work with it because it looks and feels amazing.
OMG you are about to go down a rabbit hole! Tilda has just started going mainstream in the US and it is so nice to be able to see it in person, plus she puts out free new patterns with each new line or recolors her old patterns with the new fabric. She also has basics that blend with all of her lines, very soft and vintage looking.
I’ll have to look into her basics collection. I am so impressed with the Christmas collection I purchased.
