I am so happy to have finally finished the Moonlight quilt from Susan Ache’s Halloween Memories book. This project was started the summer of 2024, and I was making great progress with it until my husband became ill. I packed it away and finally was able to get back to it this summer and get it done.
The blocks are fairly complex, but not difficult to construct. It was actually a really nice change from making sampler quilts. No doubt about it, I’ve been in my Sampler Quilt period for a few years now. It was enjoyable to work on a one block quilt and focus on what fabrics I was using in each block.
This ghost fabric was a particular favorite.

Now I will move on to finishing up the Pumpkin Spice quilt from the sew-along Lisa Bongean hosted this summer. Stay tuned on my progress with that. It has a tricky diagonal setting that I am going to have to take my time with.
On another subject, I hope you are finding the blog posts easier to read the past couple of days. I have made the type larger and darker. Plus, the fellow I hired to design the blog made a few adjustments to the background color. He softened it in an effort to make it easier to read. Thanks to all of you who made those suggestions!
One additional major change in this blog from my old one is how interactive the comment section is. I make an effort to reply to everyone who comments, and my replies are now shown in the comment section. If you make a comment and don’t get a notification that I have replied, do check back in the comment section to see it. Also, and this is super fun, you can reply to one another in the comments! This is so interactive and I know it will be a very fun feature for us all. Of course, if you prefer, you can always email me privately.
Lastly, if you get my blog in your email everyday, you might want to click on the link to read it on the actual website. Sometimes there will be more photos on my actual site and of course, all those fun comments I mentioned.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Love those little ghosts!! Fun quilt to decorate with.Doris
It has such a “girly” feel to it!
It is a beautiful quilt. You do such lovely workmanship. I do like the new blog and the type face is easier on my eyes. Can you give me an update on how your husband is doing? I continue to include the two of you in my nightly prayers.
Thanks Ginny. I am so pleased that you like the new blog. I am really happy with how it turned out. Wish I’d done it years ago!
Thanks so much for asking about Dennis. He is improving, thanks to time and to the monthly infusions he is getting. He is not back to normal, that is for sure, but he can get around with a cane and can even drive short distances. His balance isn’t good and he needs to really be careful when he is walking. Stairs are a challenge as are uneven surfaces. He has come so far in the past year. We are so grateful for that.
Thanks for your kind prayers.
The quilt is lovely. I agree, the ghosts are fun.
Glad the reply function is working for you.
Thanks Vickie.
I have some blue fabric with ghosts – was going to make something for my son when he was young. Hmmm. He’s 35 now – I think I’ll use it for a charity quilt instead! We don’t really do much on Halloween over here, so at the same time as the ghosts I got orange with spiders and bats when I was in the US. My husband now has that in his quilt – and so does my daughter in her wedding quilt. They are soooo cute!
Loving your quilt finish. It is such a nice pattern.
lol. I think I have some pirate fabric and some Stars Wars fabric that I got to make something for my son. I should use it to make him a laptop cover or something. He might get a kick out of it.
Your Moonlight quilt is lovely! I have been loving the new blog format – so easy to read and the interactions are great. I haven’t been in my sewing room at all this week. I’m a college professor and we have just begun classes, so that’s been taking all my time. This weekend, however, I am going to get busy! I am currently finishing up a Christmas quilt and I need to pick out a jelly roll project for next week.
This is such a busy time of year, especially for anyone involved in academics. I used to teach as well, and September always felt more like the start of a new year than January.
So glad you like the blog format. I am so happy with how it turned out.
The new blog format is lovely – easier to read for sure!
So glad you like it! It was an ordeal to get it all done, but I am so happy with it.
Your precision to detail is still evident even in a one block quilt. I love how with all the striped fabric, the stripes remain vertical and then for a bit whimsy the stripes in the center are on a diagonal. It’s delightful. Great quilt!
Thanks so much, Dorothy. This quilt was fun to make. It was a nice change from the things I have been making lately.
Nicole,
Your quilt is lovely. Glad to hear that your husband doing much better, as you commented above, and I hope that he will only continue to improve as the days and weeks go by.
It has been quite a journey. Nearly one year ago he was totally paralyzed, so this level of improvement is a miracle by comparison. His biggest wish is to be able to travel to Europe again with our son, but that remains to be seen. I can’t quite visualize him getting around on public transportation or staying on his feet for long. He may get there at some point, but for now, there are other kinds of travel we can do that is easier for him.
Like your new format. Love the Halloween quilt.
Thank you so much for commenting Jody! I am glad the format works for you. I am so happy with how it turned out. So many improvements over the old one.
