Several people have asked about the details regarding the Fig Tree pattern I shared the other day. It is called Thistles, and finishes at 75 x 75". It is fat quarter friendly, but I think you could absolutely make it from scraps. Don't you love that black flying geese lattice? I think it is stunning. You can order the pattern directly from Fig Tree & Co. That's what I did, and I got it super quickly.
I have got to make this quilt. It will be so much fun to pick my favorite Fig Tree color combos for these blocks. I gather that the four Weathervane block quadrants measure around 21 inches. Joanna alludes to spreading out making the blocks so it doesn't seem like a colossal chore, which I think would be a good idea. I can also see how one could use foundation papers for the square in a square units and make the flying geese in whatever method is preferred. And half square triangle papers for the Weathervane blocks. There are a lot of little time-saving tips and tricks one can employ to speed up the process!
No quilting for me so far this week, as Dennis and I have been in the Bay Area for his infusions. I plan to get back to it today and work through the weekend though, so with luck, I will have something to share with you soon. I've been thinking it is time to pull out the Halloween UFOs.
I've also been asked a lot of questions about my machine binding, so I will work on a post with some photos on my pressing and pinning techniques that are helping me get good results.
Hope your week is going well. My Eva started high school this week, which is exciting, but heart-wrenching at the same time. Her dad took some pictures of her, as he always does each first day of school. He also took one of her walking away from the car, backpack on her shoulders, heading into the school. I admit I may have shed a tear over that one.

This girl has come a long way since kindergarten! And you know what? She's been a sweetheart every step of the way.

Yep, Eva is doing that thing, she is growing up. So pretty. High school is a big step….wishing her a great year.
I love all of your quilting updates, sewing vicariously through you. Thanks!
She looks so sweet! They seem to grow up overnight. It’s hard to believe she’s starting high school. I love seeing all your quilting projects. I haven’t done any this year. Life has got in the way.
Awe, Eva!! Many of us readers have watched her grow up over these years and your love for her is so big and unconditional. All granddaughters need that kind of love! It’s a wonderful and needed foundation for her life! I have the Thistles pattern and Zen Chic fabric to go with it. Maybe I’ll dig out the tub and sew along with you?? But I’ll be months behind you in the making of it…but I’ll probably have it bound before you hahahaha!! Have a good one, Nicole!!
I love seeing all your various quilting projects and the gorgeous fabrics.
I haven’t been able to work on any of my quilting projects this year due to my husbands health. So I really do enjoy reading about all you have going on. I’m looking forward to your binding post as I’m one that hates to hand stitch binding. I hope to get back in my sewing room this month and finish up some projects.
Eva is such a pretty young lady! I love hearing about her. I’m a grandmother and have a grandchild in high school. They grow up so fast.!
That is a really pretty pattern, and would lend itself beautifully to a fat quarter collection or multiple scraps from your stash.
Yay for Eva! Hopefully high school will be exciting for her and not intimidating. I was massively shy at that age and it took a year for me to really embrace the change.
She appears to have on brand new Converse (or Converse-style) shoes, which are ESSENTIAL for high school! 🙂
omg…the pose with the arms behind the back are exactly the same in both pictures. I hope her 1st day is wonderful!
Good luck on the pattern. The fabric you chose is perfect and you have a plan to make it a little easier. I can’t wait to see updates. I love that faded look of Fig Tree fabric…especially the blue in that bundle.
Eva is such a pretty young lady! Where has the time gone? Best wishes to her for a happy high school experience! It goes by too fast!
Can’t believe she’s in high school already! What a lovely young lady she has become! Can’t wait to see pics of your quilt progress too!
It has been so nice to have the privilege of watching Eva grow up!
I hope she has a terrific time in high school and has experiences mostly smooth sailing!
