I’m Gonna Be Broke, But It Will Be Worth It

I am seriously going to be broke, but I am sending a lot of quilts out to be quilted. They have languished too long and it's time to get off the pot and get them finished. Look at all those packages of backing fabric. That set me back a few bucks too. I did get some good prices on a few of them though.

So, what am I sending out for quilting? Here is my little fashion show:

These two quilts are Family Reunion on the left and the Riley Blake Design Challenge 2025 on the right. The Family Reunion quilt is made from Corey Yoder's Cozy Up fabric line, and I will call that quilt "Cozy Up" from now on because that is how I think of it. Just wait until you see the next quilt I am sending out. Because of the barn motif, it will be a great companion quilt to the Riley Blake quilt.

How cute is this? I think the patterns were included in Fat Quarter Shop's Sew Sampler Boxes a few years back. You can buy the entire set on FQS now. They call it The Barn Block Recipe Card Set. I recall really having fun making this. It was one of a number of red and white quilts I was making a few years ago.

This is truly a spectacular quilt and I can't believe I have waited so long to have it quilted. The pattern is Into the Wind by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. and the fabric is Larkspur by 3 Sisters. I won't tell you how long this has been finished, but it's been a long time. Here is a better picture of the quilt from the pattern cover:

This quilt is BIG, and there was a ton of piecing involved. Lots and lots of flying geese. Another brilliant pattern from Carrie Nelson. This will be a Christmas gift for Sara.

Now to trim the backings to size and to get these packed up and sent off.

It has been horrendously hot here, and I did virtually nothing the entire weekend. I dabbled a bit with the Halloween Memories blocks and am nearly finished with them. I will start sewing those together this week. Honestly, all I did was read and watch YouTube videos. I wasted a lot of time just sitting around. Oh, and eating ice cream. That must stop immediately.

Hope you made better use of your time than I did over the weekend!

  1. Your productivity is always inspiring. I wish I had as many completed tops. Mine tend to languish as partially finished because I get distracted by the next fun project out there. Soon you’ll be getting fun returns in the mail🪡

  2. All of your quilts are gorgeous! I especially love Into the Wind, it a perfect blend of pattern and fabric! I can’t imagine having to send my quilts out for quilting and what it would cost. I feel very fortunate that when we moved six years ago we were able to find a house with room to accommodate my long arm. Stay cool! We had a few days in the upper 70s last week and it was delightful to open the house up. Starting tomorrow it will cool off again so we’ll open it up until Friday when we leave for vacation.

  3. Your quilts are beautiful! I know what you mean about “biting the bullet” and having quilts quilted but it will be a relief to have them done….just more to bind!
I made a red and white house/barn quilt a number of years ago as a quilt along by Jessica Dayon. Love RED!

  4. Into the Wind is a heart stopper! Just gorgeous. I always wanted to make that one and I wish I had. Just beautiful!

  5. Family reunion is my favorite, but all of your quilts are beautiful. I recently had my hip replaced and sewing has been keeping my mind busy. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilts.

  6. Wow! I am so impressed. They are all beautiful, but I am always drawn to Miss Rosie Quilts. The shipping alone is a shock.
I just sent one out last week. I think i am going to play with table runners for a bit. Them I quilt at home.

  7. They’re all stunning & it’s good that you’ve been perfecting sewing binding down by machine! Sara is going to love her Christmas gift! It’s ice cream eating season so you’re allowed to indulge a little!

  8. Wow, wow, wow, and WOW! What a year you will have for finishes. Love the barns, and especially love everything 3 sisters designs. I bet you will bind them all in a day with your new method. Have a great week!

  9. Your quilt tops are great! I’m jealous of your productivity!!!
So glad to see Into The Wind make an appearance on your blog again. I LOVE it. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

  10. you ate ice cream. I was worse. I baked cookies and ate a lot of them. a.lot.of.them.
I remember that barn quilt. so wonderful!
I look for deals on FQS weekly. I’m always looking for backing fabric and have gotten some great deals. if I see a good neutral on sale I buy 6 yrds of it and it’s usually enough for my quilts.
stay cool and it’s always okay to do nothing. we all need to rest our minds. everything is just so chaotic.

  11. You know they will take up more space when they are done don’t you? I’ve been gifting long time friends quilts I have made to make room. Their pleasure and thanks are so rewarding.

  12. It will be so nice for you to see them done, and put to use. I’m a long armer, so a lot of my backings are by the bolt, but I find a good selection and prices at BacksideFabrics.com

  13. All those beautiful tops! I started a scrappy version of the house quilt as a QAL when COVID shutdown began. Each house was to represent a month of COVID. I stopped at 20 (who knew…??) and have not put the blocks together. Better do it before we tempt fate!
