Salad With Grilled Tuna

I hope you all had a splendid weekend. I will tell you about mine and then share the best thing about it: Salad with Grilled Tuna.

It was 100 degrees where I live on Friday. And Saturday and Sunday. Our air conditioning system failed Thursday, and we had to have it replaced. We spent scads of money on not one, but two air conditioning units (we have a big house). When they were tested, they did not work. It turns out we needed a fan and a capacitor as well. Which could not be provided right away. The AC guy was awesome, managed to get the parts on the weekend, and put them in for us. Now we have a nice cool house and an empty checking account.

The upshot of all that was that I did not venture upstairs to my sweltering sewing room at all. Not even once. What I did do was organize a delicious salad that involved no indoor cooking. I made a big

Green Salad with Grilled Tuna.

Ingredients:

Half a bag of prewashed romaine leaves
Half a bag of prewashed coleslaw mix (with cabbage and carrots etc)
Half a diced cucumber
4 sliced green onions
1 diced medium avocado
A handful of won ton strips meant for salad
One grilled tuna steak (marinated with teriyaki sauce)
Dressing: about 1/3 cup (to taste) Asian salad dressing*

*The dressing I used sounded Asian. It was Miso Orange Sesame by Pacific Coast. There are other brands that make a similar product. It had sesame seeds and ginger in it for sure.
You can also switch up the veggies in this salad to suit your taste. Marinate the tuna steak for an hour before grilling, or not. Obviously, you cut the tuna into bite-sized pieces and put them on top of the salad. Toss and enjoy.

Hope to get some sewing done today, now that my upstairs is liveable again. The second clue in the Primitive Gatherings Pumpkin sew-along comes out today. It is supposed to be churn dash blocks. I may get daring with my color choice instead of the murky brown they are showing in the peek of the mock-up Lisa posted on FaceBook..

  1. Your Primitive Gatherings blocks are so darling! What a charming quilt they will make!
Thank you for the recipe. Hubby is so fond of grilled tuna, but I am at a loss for finding new recipes for it.

  2. The salad sounds delicious, great for a summer meal. The Primitive Gatherings fabric is great, I just purchased some on Saturday. Sorry to hear about your AC. ☹️

  3. What a delicious salad! We have to steer clear of Romaine if DH’s Coumadin level is low as it has so much Vit K+ in those dark green leaves. Baby spinach is also high in Vit. K+.
Am glad your A/C is fixed now.
    Hugs!

  4. My complete sympathy on the AC! Mine went out last month on a Saturday, so repairs not initiated for 2 days until Monday. The small burgh I live in takes 10 days from application to issue the permit to replace plus their $175 fee. All this in 95 degree June. In Florida. Not on a beach with the lovely ocean breeze. Miserable!

  5. Oh, oh! She’s gonna pull out some of those purples! 🙂
Seriously, my sympathies are with your checking account. The heat must have been unbearable.

  6. I can imagine the stifling heat in the house while your AC was broken. You’re fortunate to be able to have it replaced so quickly! Sympathies to your checkbook despite being part of owning a home. Hopefully, you’re good for many years to come!

  7. Oh my goodness — now a brand new air conditioner! As Jan said above, hopefully you are now good for many more years ahead!
The salad sounds delicious and I’m glad you may trade out some of those brown colors. Brown is my least favorite color. 🙂

  8. I love a quilt where the blocks are on the diagonal. really a great setting.
2 new AC unit? yeah, that’s about $15k in the bay area. most 2 stories homes have gone to two units. more efficient and easier on the AC unit.
we’ve been so lucky here with mild weather. honestly, the entire country is being hit so hard it makes me feel guilty.
does the temp go down at night? we get a good cool down and breeze at night and rely on that at night. it’s a great thing about owning a dog. he would bark like crazy if someone tried to come in through an open window.
