I was super productive on Sunday and made a dent in my mile-long quilting To Do list. At the top of the list was the Neutral Granny table runner for my sister. I don't know why, but I was over-thinking that project from start to finish. Should I go with more lights, or add in more darks, how long should it be? In spite of all my dithering, it turned out very well I think.
Ahren has left us and gone back to Ireland. Sob. We miss him already and wish he were still here. He made it home safely, with three packed boxes as extra luggage. Here's a tip: if you are traveling, packing a medium-sized moving box with up to 50 pounds of whatever costs around $60 as extra "Checked luggage", which is tons cheaper than shipping the items overseas. He took three boxes this time. I do not have any idea how he managed them, but he had one of those airport carts and piled it all on. He even took a kite with him (packed in a carrying case). It didn't fit in any of the boxes, as it was the size of an umbrella. He asked the first-class flight attendant if there was room in the coat closet for it, and they accommodated him cheerfully without any charge.

Another very positive thing that I attribute to Ahren's visit is that Dennis made a tremendous effort to be more mobile. He has given up the wheelchair entirely and uses the walker less than half the time. Mostly, he is getting around with two canes. (I need to get him two matching ones!). He saw his neurologist last week and she was blown away by the change she saw in him. He has gone from being paralyzed in October to what you see in the photo above. He is still a fall risk, has serious balance issues, and can't move fast or with a lot of coordination, but he is getting there. We are even talking about traveling to Europe again!
We had a busy weekend, but now things are going to settle down a bit. I hope all is well with all of you!

Wow! So many wonderful things going on. The biggest is your dear husband’s improved mobility!❤️ I’m thrilled for you. Your quilt is gorgeous. If your sister doesn’t like it, just send it my way.😉
The runner is really attractive. I wasn’t sure before, but now I am! It’s great to see Dennis moving so well. I’m sure you are thrilled to see his continual progress!
Your neutral runner is so delicate looking! Your sister is going to be thrilled! It seemed to me when Ahren left after Christmas that Dennis was regaining some mobility. Now you’ve confirmed what I suspected! Ahren is definitely motivating his dad to do more on his own, which is terrific!
I’m so happy you had a great visit with Ahren and that Dennis’s mobility has improved so much! Isn’t it amazing what we do for our children! Your table runner is lovely, can’t wait to see what’s next on the finished list!
The “neutral granny” is perfection! Love the fussy cut center square, and I recognize one of my favorite fig tree prints in the border. It must be hard having Ahren so far away– hard to even do a phone call through all those time zones, I bet! And Dennis’ progress is just fantastic. xox
I love those colors! it would make such a beautiful quilt. I know it’s a runner for your sis BUT it would be a gorgeous quilt.
so happy to hear Ahren inspired your hubby to move around more. every little bit of moving helps.
3 boxes? what did he take back with him? food items he can’t get in Ireland?
Way to go, Dennis! That picture of him is just so awesome!
Love the table runner and wonderful news about your hubby! Yes, please get him matching canes or make a quilt cover 🤣
Thanks for the extra luggage tip. Last year my quilting best buddy and I went to England and Scotland. We both had to purchase an extra suitcase! Now I have an extra not so nice full size suitcase.
Wonderful achievement for your husband. So inspiring!
So glad to hear about your great visit with you son and your husband’s progress.
