No doubt about it, Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We took a drive over to Reno on Wednesday and did some fun shopping. I got to go to an actual Talbots store, which is a rarity. Of course, I bought a few things. We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and bought some olive oil at a boutique shop. We live out in the country, so malls, chain retail stores, and even specialty stores are not something we get to experience frequently. We made the most of it and came home to our rental with full tummies and empty wallets.

On Tuesday, Ahren made chili, which turns out a bit different each time he makes it. These are the veggies we put in this particular batch. Onions, poblano chiles, red pepper, a jalapeno, carrots, cilantro, and tomatoes. We also added browned ground beef, a can of chili beans, Rotel canned tomatoes, chili seasoning, and other seasonings. The recipe was great, and who knows if we will ever duplicate it?

Ahren is a cook who "lets the force be with him". This chili was delicious, with half the fun being the toppings we piled on top. We had sour cream, cilantro, shredded cheese, diced fresh tomatoes, and crushed Fritos. It was so good. There isn't a recipe, really, he just browns the hamburger and adds what he thinks might be good. I did talk him out of adding mushrooms, which I thought were just wrong.

This has been a super fun trip, and Dennis has managed to get around just great with two canes. No more wheelchair, and he is done with the walker, he says. We head home this morning, and I'll check in with some sewing-related posts coming up soon.
Hope you are all having a great week!

This is a big milestone that Dennis has achieved. No walker. Glad you can all be together and look at the pretty scenery and feel hope.

What a wonderful trip for all of you.❤️Dennis has worked incredibly hard to be able to walk with only the aid of his canes! You both needed this wonderful vacation so much. The chili sounds delicious. I’m also one of those cooks that just tossed things in. Drives my daughter crazy when she tries to replicate a meal.😉
What a lovely trip for all of you and I’m sure having Ahern with you is the icing on the cake! Great news about Dennis! You must be happy and relieved with his progress! Have a wonderful holiday!
Chopping and sipping!!! Good food, family, and doing it all in God’s country. Life is good and you are living it!
Sounds like the perfect getaway vacation! So glad to hear that Dennis is able to walk with only the canes now. Such hard work and perseverance. Thank the good Lord for all his progress.
Safe travels back home and have fun together during the remainder of Ahren’s visit.

What a great trip! Congrats to Dennis for ‘losing’ his walker! Tahoe Chili looks & sounds delicious! Your day out in Reno was a huge success! Safe travels home–Archie will be so relieved to have you rescue/pick him up!
That is how I cook soup and stew and chili. My trademark is I use three meats each time, like ground beef, chicken, sausage. And I almost always add green beans.
So glad you all are doing well. Sounds like a fun trip.
Wow— your time went in too fast! Glad to see you all enjoying yourselves— great start to the summer. Xox
What a wonderful time you are having! Ahren’s chili sounds delicious, mine is very boring by comparison. Dennis’s progress is amazing! Take care! 🌷
You are making me jealous, Nicole!! Come to Flathead Lake in Montana this summer and I’ll meet you there! Enjoy your time away and with Ahren.
