Archie in a Snit and Verbena

Archie is in a bit of a pout with us right now. Dennis had another round of infusions in the Bay Area this week and we had to put Archie in boarding at our vet clinic. When we can, we like to board him at a place in the country where he can romp and play with other canine pals, but our pet sitter was on vacation, so that was a nonstarter. Off to the vet clinic for boarding he went and he was not well pleased.

He has been standoffish since we brought him home, and if truth be told, I think he is exhausted. We will never know if he barks or cries while he is incarcerated. I know he is in a cage/kennel a good part of the time he is there, and that the sounds of other animals carrying on cause him some anxiety. The vet tech did tell me he definitely does not eat much while he is with them. At any rate, he has been keeping to himself since coming home, and with luck, will be back to normal tomorrow. If he can forgive us.

This pot of verbena has really taken off. When we got back home after three days in the Bay Area, we were amazed to see how many blooms had opened. I need to get more of this pretty annual, which behaves as a perennial in my climate. This is its second year of blooming on our back porch.

Thanks so much for your interesting feedback on your book club experiences! That was just fascinating. Among other things, it sounds like adding in a food/wine component takes away somewhat from the book discussion. Tune in to Reeding Between the Lines book review podcast on Sunday to hear Sara and I discuss our latest reads and our opinions on book clubs!

Have a grand weekend everyone!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Archie. My neighbor lady is retired and does dog sitting. She is always busy. Sometimes dogs stay overnight at her house; other times she stays at the dog’s home. I wish you could find someone like her. We also had a cat sitter when we moved to another state. We knew no one so we hired a sitter to take care of our two cats when we were gone. It was a husband and wife team and it was their business. He told me a lot of people hired him to sleep at their house and take care of their cats while they were away. It was actually to make sure their teenage kids didn’t throw parties while they were away! 😆

  2. Ah Donna, this is what we did too when we traveled. A husband/wife team would come over several times a day to walk/talk/feed our dogs. We never had them overnight but that was an option. Particularly as our younger dog aged she was very unhappy at the kennel so this service was perfect. Our daughter was a cat sitter and would always stay at the client’s house. I hope you can find a “backup” for Archie next time. Poor boy.

  3. Your flowers are beautiful and obviously very happy with their conditions. In looking at them, I assumed they were petunias.
We used to have a cat that was so annoyed with us if we were gone a few days, he would be torn between attaching himself to us and turning his back on us and pointedly ignoring us. Archie is so cute.

  4. Hoping Dennis’s infusions were helpful & that he’s continuing to improve! If Archie’s kennel boarding was anything like our dog’s, he’s worn out. When we picked her up after 4 days she was almost delirious. It took several days to get her back to her old self! Extra snuggles are also helpful! 🐶💙

  5. oh, my gosh! that flower is gorgeous! I wish I had planted some of those in my yard. next time. poor archie. our last dog was so sensitive. she would pout when we would go out to dinner.

  6. you need to read the children’s book, “Dear Mrs. Larue”. its about a dog that goes to training school. the reader gets both Ike’s (the dog’s) side and the reality of the situation. priceless. i love it and own it as an adult!!
