Quilting Adjacent

Over the weekend, I pulled out the new Home Town Holidays fabric I recently purchased and gave it a good starching. I need some kind of holiday project to work on over the next couple of months, even though I have at least three Halloween projects that are unfinished for now. I do enjoy working on a seasonally appropriate project. Do you do that too?

It was a cool fall day and Archie kept me company as I sprayed fabric on my outside table. You may notice some curious-looking stone posts in the background. Work continues on our house, and the wooden caps on those posts were riddled with dry rot and need to be replaced. The parade of workmen on our property is constant. New gutters are coming as well. The renovation feels endless and the timing, with my husband in the hospital and so ill, is just terrible. Nothing to be done about it, winter is coming (shades of Game of Thrones) and we need gutters.

I have also finished binding my Ears of Corn runner. I love the quilting design, which is called Orange Peel. I will definitely use this quilting panto again.

Would you believe now that I have finished my Thanksgiving decorating, I have no surface on which to place this new runner? I know I could always re-do one of the vignettes, but I don't have the energy. There is always next year!

I ran out of time to cut out any of my starched Holiday fabric, but I will be back home Wednesday afternoon, (today!) and hope to start that project at the end of this week. It will be something to do while I am home by myself.

Ugh, trying to get used to the end of Daylight Savings Time. Why is this always so hard?

  1. I’m so glad you are able to do some quilting activities! Archie looks content also. Our little Foxies always need to be near us, don’t they? Cosmo is the same. I’ve had a Halloween project just waiting to be finished for over a month. Can’t wait to hear what baking you will do this week!

  2. Can you put the new runner across the end of your bed as a bed runner or would that look odd? I picture your bedroom as very elegant, so it may not work. So glad you’re taking some time for yourself. I think it’s important with all that you’re dealing with. I think we’re all going to need some self care time for the foreseeable future. I know I will.

  3. It’s nice to see that you got to spend some time on something ‘quilty’! When you get back home the starched fabric will be ready for your rotary cutter! Aren’t you happy you didn’t give up on the Ears of Corn runner? You’ll enjoy using it next year! Hoping Dennis is comfortable & starting to heal.

  4. I now have a list on my phone (in the notes section) of long arm quilt patterns.
On my list is my quilts and what I picked for each one.
And I also note the patterns you used that I really like. I write the name of the stitch and the date of your blog post mentioning it, so I can go back and check photos.
House repairs are so time consuming! But better sooner than later.

  5. It’s always fun to plan and prepare for a new project, it’s such pretty fabric. You will have a beautiful new holiday quilt. It will be so great when all of the work is complete on your home. It will be so peaceful and quiet. 😊 Thinking about you and your husband and continued prayers for a wonderful recovery. Take care! 🌻

  6. You can do this! I’m sure it is just overwhelming but it’s good you are doing some quilting. And you have Archie to keep you company. Your quilts are lovely. I find I work on several in the holiday season, but now am ready to put them away and start on Christmas. I have a very large quilt for our bed that needs quilting. I’m determined to get it done.

  7. Maybe a narrow wall space to hang your tablerunner lengthwise? There never seems to be enough places to display my doll and crib quilts, and I will put one on the back of a chair, or sofa. I think they look pretty sweet!

  8. Yikes, sounds like you have so much on your plate! Contractors can be so exhausting just by hanging around, I feel I need to check on them with water, etc. Hopefully they will be done quickly!
