I am happy to say I was able to do a bit of sewing over the weekend. I started the Christmas at Granny's Quilt Along hosted by My Sew Quilty Life, and really like the first block. My fabrics are mostly reds and greens and backgrounds from Lori Holt's Hometown Holiday collection. There is a great Instagram group at #christmasatrannysqal where you can see other people's blocks.
The blocks are pretty large, at 14 1/2" square. However, those center units are small and fussy, finishing at
6 1/2".

The second block features this cute little present. Gosh, those pieces were tiny. I decided to stop torturing the bow part of the block and leave it be. You can't tell my workmanship leaves something to be desired unless you look at it under a magnifying glass. I think it's pretty cute.
My husband has been transferred to an acute rehabilitation center about an hour away from us. They say they will give him three hours of physical and occupational therapy each day. I wonder if he will be home by Thanksgiving? He can scoot himself from sitting on the edge of the bed onto a wheelchair, but still can't stand or walk. He has more dexterity in his hands and fingers and can lift his legs up much better. I don't think I can manage him on my own if he can't at least stand and hang onto a walker and take a step or two. Each day brings a small improvement so I am hopeful.
I plan to go visit him today, so probably won't post tomorrow. But look for me on Thursday!

The tree in my backyard really outdid itself this year. The colors were gorgeous and the leaves seemed to stay on the tree a bit longer than usual. We had a bit of rain yesterday and about half the leaves found their way onto the lawn. I sure do enjoy that tree.

I’m so glad to hear that your husband is making some improvement – physical and occupational therapy can work wonders. And I’m glad he is closer to you now. So, little steps, and then more little steps. What a scary time you’ve had of it all, but you are doing what you can and what you must. Keep the faith.
So glad to get the update and hope great progress is made. Really love your Christmas blocks— just what is needed to make spirits bright. Xox
So good to hear that things are progressing. Also so glad that he has his wits about him and you do not have to be with him constantly. Physical therapy and occupational therapy are like full time jobs. He will probably be very busy and also taking naps. Hopefully the food is tolerable.
Your Xmas blocks are lovely. I am sure Archie is glad to have things done what back to normal with you home more.

What cute blocks! Isn’t it amazing how a bit of sewing helps our mental health. I’m so happy for you and your husband that things are getting better. One step at a time. 🙏❤️
Hurray for the transfer!! I’m so glad he’s closer to home. Three hours of therapy should help his progress immensely. And you get to sleep in your own bed. You get a little stitch time for the soul. Praying he can be home by Thanksgiving.
The tree is spectacular. Our first freeze is so late in coming this year that leaves are still clinging in places. Nice to have that colorful show for longer.
I’m so glad to read good news about your husband’s progress. I’m also glad that he’s closer to home. Constant driving in California traffic can really take a toll on you. We’ll all keep praying that he’s home for Thanksgiving. I love your Christmas blocks. I may have to rethink doing the quilt. I don’t usually do mystery quilts, but maybe…
Continuing prayers for you and your husband. It sounds like he is making progress. Please take care of yourself, as the caregiver or spouse it is also an important job. The blocks you are working on are going to be a beautiful quilt.
Great news on your husband’s progress! Your Christmas 🎄 blocks are cute. What kind of tree ? It’s beautiful 😻
It’s good to hear your husband has moved to acute rehab. That he is able to transfer to the wheelchair is good news! The rehab will build on that.
Your job is to be super thankful that he is improving and not fret about when he will be able to come home!! He’s doing his best! It’s been a scary time for you both but things are looking up. You are fortunate that he is still with you and has every expectation of a full recovery. Cheers!
So glad to read about your husband’s progress! I do like those granny blocks but they really sound too small for me. Our first frost hasn’t happened yet either- so late for us but I have just loved the colors. Take care.
Transferring to a rehab facility with physical & occupational therapy is a move in the right direction for your husband! I’m hoping that you’re keeping up with your eye shots, too. Those should be kept on schedule to get the best results. You made a lot of progress on that sew along! Scritches for Archie! 🐶
So glad to hear that your husband is progressing along in his recovery and rehab. The transfer to the facility will no doubt help you both. For him as the PT will work with him continuously, and for you so that you don’t have to drive as far!
Your Granny blocks are cute and just the thing for some positive diversion therapy.
Nicole, happy he’s making improvements. Praying he’ll be back home before you it!
so glad to hear Dennis is closer to home. Everyone is praying he will continue to improve. if he can’t be home on thanksgiving maybe you can bring a favorite meal to him and have a picnic on his bed? doesn’t have to be fancy. just being together will be comforting for both of you.
put a vest on archie and say he’s a service dog in training. ;p
xo
I’m so glad that the is progress being made in your husband’s recovery process. I’m sure receiving more physical therapy will help immensely.
The Christmas At Granny’s blocks are so cute, this quilt will be so festive! The tree is so beautiful in your backyard, Mother Nature certainly outdid herself! Take care! 🌻

Moving your husband to a place where he will get a lot of therapy sounds like a lot of progress to me! And scooting onto the wheelchair is another big stride. I know it seems so slow to both of you but is really great. I’m happy for both of you. Please say hi to him for me and stay positive during this part of his journey, Joy
So thankful that your husband is making positive improvement! And to be closer to you is wonderful news. Continuing to pray 🙏
Love your blocks and glad you got some sewing therapy in 😊
Your tree is just gorgeous 😍
I just ask – is Archie still hogging the chair ? 😉🐾
Hi, I’ve been following along on your blog for a bit and had an idea – would you want a suggestion for a powerchair, to make it easier for your husband to get around while he’s not able to walk (or push himself in a wheelchair)? Knowing that his recovery course can be..hard to predict, it might be helpful to have a tool that makes him a bit more mobile and independent and takes a tiny bit of burden off of you. I say this as someone who’s been using a powerchair for the past four years, starting in my 30s, and found it incredibly helpful and a big load off my partner as well as giving me more independence myself.
If this is a helpful thing to bring up, I’m happy to share the research I did to choose a powerchair — insurance can give a really hard time about covering chairs, and the research can be overwhelming. So if this is useful to you, I’m very happy to share — I just don’t want to overwhelm you with information if it’s not helpful or not the right time. I’m including my contact info so that if you do want more info, you can let me know. Wishing you and your husband (and pup!) all the best, in healing and having enough rest and hopefully some treats. Human need treats too! And quilting counts 🙂
Your blocks look fabulous! Makes me want to get the pattern but not sure I want to tackle those tiny center blocks Such great news that your husband is staying closer, hopefully his progress will continue to improve so that he’s home by thanksgiving 🤞🏼at least you have your gorgeous tree to look at and Archie to keep you company 😉
Happy to hear that your husband has been transferred closer to home, and that he is making progress. I am thinking of you and sending best vibes and wishes. Am glad you are managing a bit of sewing — such important “you” care, and beautiful too. Take care, Nicole, and continue to think positive.
