Fancy Summer Breeze

Isn't this pull of fabric happy? It is a combination of Lori Holt's "Prim" and "Flea Market", Corey Yoder's "Spring Brook", and Lily Ashbury's "Fancy". I think Lily Ashbury was ahead of her time with those fun bright-hued fabrics. They are hugely popular now with designers such as Lori Holt and April Rosenthal putting out two or more collections a year.

My Lily Ashbury fabrics are several years old and were pulled out of my "Happy Fabrics" bin for a new project I have in mind.

How cute is this pattern "Summer Breeze" by Carried Away? That border is wonderful. It is a mini quilt, only 26" square. I have enough fabric to make six of these quilts, I swear. I will just be dipping my toe into it. I sure do love shopping from home!

Here is my first little test pinwheel block. I think I love it.

What prompted this new project, when I have six UFOs in process?

Well, I was trying to get out some springy table toppers/runners to decorate for Easter, and was sorely disappointed in my lack of them. I had plenty of fall decor, but not much cheerful, light and appropriate for this time of year and going forward. These rich, color-saturated colors are perfect.

Please somebody tell me I have enough fall-colored quilts. And for heaven's sake, if I start yet another red and white quilt, somebody call the quilt police.

  1. These are wonderful fabrics. Now, why would anyone stop you from more quilt projects that you love to do? It’s okay if you have to put out all new quilts each day in the fall. Life is short, enjoy the journey.

  2. Oh I like that block! While my heart and my home belong to Kim Diehl fabrics, I like to pull out Lori’s prints and play sometimes. In fact I am working on seasonal table runners right now using the farmgirl patterns and her fabric. Hope to find someone who wants them!

  3. Love the colours and energy – perfect for spring! Have fun playing with this happy palette and cute pattern.

  4. Call the Quilt Police?? I don’t see the problem here…you already own the fabric & you need seasonal toppers! One can never have too much quilty goodness, so go for it!

  5. One can never have too many red and white fabrics; they are timeless and appropriate for so many things. Love this latest project!

  6. That will be fun and I love that it is tiny. Also, if you do make a red and white quilt please send to me. Somehow, I haven’t made one for myself. Dang, I will have to get on that some day. ;p

  7. Those pinwheels will carry you right through July if you wish. They feel so summery, like a puff of a breeze would send them spinning.
