Moda BlockHeads 34, 35, and 38 and Project Update

I've gotten a bit behind in my Moda BlockHeads sew along and wanted to get caught up this week. The one above, #34, I had been putting off for obvious reasons. Lisa Bongean designed this one. I opted for the 12" block for this pattern.  I know, what a coward, right? Gosh, it's hard to get that center white square pattern to come out exact. Lots of triangle points come together, and if you are off even a thread, the perfect square design is spoiled. As someone on FaceBook said, I had a date with Jack the Ripper.

These are #38 (upper) and #35 (lower). #38 is the most recent block, designed by Stacey Hsu. That little log cabin style block was a delight to make. It was easy, came together perfectly, and I love it. #35, the X design, is by Lissa Alexander. And let me tell you, that little bugger is deceptively simple looking. Jack and I had another date or two when I made that block.

I made both of the blocks above in the 6" size. I had a look at how many blocks I have made so far in the four sizes I need (4", 6", 8", and 12"), and I needed more 6", so that is what I did.  All the 6" blocks will be set on point.

And here we are- 18 6" blocks.  I need 26 of them.

These are my 8" blocks.  Clearly, that size must be my favorite as I have completed 21 of them. They will be straight set. I believe I'll need 26 in that size.

And ta da, here are the 12" blocks. They are also to be set on the diagonal, and I will need 12 of them.

I forgot to take a picture of my 4", but I've only made 7 of them and will need to make 5 more as I recall.
This project has been so enjoyable for me. I love my fabrics, which are, for the most part, various 3 Sisters collections. I don't use this color combination often, so that is a novelty too. This quilt is going to be something when it is all put together.

Hope the week is going well for all of you. Happy October!

  1. I agree! This quilt is going to be beautiful when it’s all joined together! Great colors & great job! Stay well!

  2. All beautifully stitched! I’m much lazier than you and a bit allergic to tiny blocks :). Glad you’re enjoying most of the piecing and all of the fabrics.

  3. Your blocks look sooo great, I love them. You’re right, this quilt is going to be something and I look forward to seeing how you put it together.
