A Movie Date

My husband and I used to be great movie buffs when we lived in a more populated area.  We went to the movies practically every weekend and kept up with everything that was at the box office.  Now that we live in a rural setting, the movies that play in our town tend to be all about blockbuster super heroes, disaster movies or animated films for the kids.  Not so much our cup of tea, so we have gotten out of the habit of regular movie attendance.

Down here in the Palm Springs area, movies are a very big deal.   Being relatively close to Hollywood and LA, motion pictures are a treasured form of entertainment.  There are gigantic luxury cineplexes in every town.  Yesterday we went to a huge one in Rancho Mirage that had 16 theaters under one roof.  Plus, check out the seating in the photo above!  Each seat was large recliner complete with foot rest.  It was pretty fabulous.  There were a total of six of us in the theater so we felt as if it was our own private screening room.

Oh, and what movie did we see?  Mary Queen of Scots with Saoirse Ronin and Margot Robbie.  The movie was so well done, and gave such a realistic glimpse into history.  The two main actresses were excellent.

We do a few other activities planned while we are here on vacation, but honestly, if we went to the movies every day, I'd be thrilled!

  1. This movie is on my list. We went last week to “Beale Street” and I was really disappointed -OK but nothing new IMHO. A lady there had just come out of Mary Queen of Scots when we were leaving and said she really liked it. Have fun and be warm!

  2. A recliner in the movie theater? Bliss! Of course, I’d be likely to doze off if I was reclining. 🙂
    Enjoy!
    Hugs!

  3. Glad you enjoyed your private screening! The ‘multiplex’ in our Smalltown, USA has gotten one of their theaters (out of four) fitted with the new recliners. We haven’t partaken because both of us feel like it’s a recipe to fall asleep & miss the movie!

  4. That’s great for you! I think the last time I watched a movie in a cinema it’s about a year ago because it’s so expensive and I know about half a year later I can buy the movie on dvd for the same price.

  5. I love seeing movies in the theater! Same problem here though — heavy focus on the superhero/youth/big hit movies, so I miss many films I’d like to see.
