Back in the Saddle Again

Hello there.  Thanks for your positive comments about me doing a monthly favorites post.  I think that should be fun.

We are home from our vacation to Lake Tahoe, and our son Ahren is on his way home to Dublin.  I wasn't so sad saying goodbye to him this time because I know we will be together again in just a few months when we travel there to visit him.  We had a great time on our trip to the mountains, and although it was fairly chilly most days, Ahren got the photos he wanted and was very happy about that.

The picture at the top of this post is my little patriotic table topper made from Betsy Chutchian's Rachel Remembered fabric.  I am so pleased with how it turned out and even had it professionally quilted.  It will be a nice all-summer decoration for my dining table.

I spent all Sunday putting things away, doing laundry and clearing about 800 miscellaneous items of clutter off my kitchen counters.  Seriously, how does that even happen?  Sara and Eva spent the night with us on Friday and we were short one bed, so Eva slept on the sofa in the front room.  She brought every single stuffed toy she owns to sleep with her on the couch.  And guess who got to put them away?  Nanas do let things slide sometimes.   Make that 900 items I had to put away.

My husband drove Ahren to the San Francisco airport for his flight home yesterday, and stayed with family in the Bay Area over night.  I was on my own and decided to make this Mushroom Pizza for my dinner.  The recipe is another one by Damn Delicious.  You should check out her blog and Instagram pages for more recipes.  They always are so good.  She even has a cookbook out called, wait for it, Damn Delicious.  It was super easy, using Pillsbury refrigerated pizza crust, so I was happy  not to fuss.

Hope we all have a great week.  Looking forward to getting back to the sewing room!

  1. Love the softness of your patriotic table runner. Seems like all my Red-White-Blue are primary colors and just seem so harsh. Pretty pattern, too.

  2. Your new table topper is sweet and charming!
Have fun being home again, home again!
    Hugs!

  3. I love the new table topper. How about a closeup to see the quilting? Glad you had a wonderful time last week. It sounds very nice. The pizza looks delicious!

  4. Love the table topper. I like RWB together, but softer like Betsy does it, also Laurie Minik. As we speak, my sister and husband are visiting in Ireland, having a whale of a trip, one month to Ireland and Scotland. Several of we 5 kids have talked about going to visit where one set of grandparents originated, and now we have the first of us actually getting there. The pictures are fabulous, soft green, ancient buildings. Found our last name of Cleary, started out as Colleary. History is bringing our shadow family alive. Glad you had Eva and Sara to keep close one more night after sending Ahren back to his home.

  5. I’ll bet it was wonderful to have that overflowing house for a little while! Once the ‘evidence’ of a full house is put away you can get back to creating beautiful quilts with happy memories dancing in your head!

  6. Beautiful table topper it turned out so cute!
    The pizza looks yummy.
Glad you had a great time with Ahren and I’m sure you look already forward to your trip in a few month to Ireland.

  7. That is a great table topper and looks like 4 or 5 inch finished blocks. Love rwb and have tons of scraps since 99 percent of my Quilts are QOV. You are so blessed to have a great visit in Tahoe and to be able to go to Dublin soon. Relax while you can and be blessed.
