Windmills, All But Borders

I have held fast to my resolve to get some quilt tops finished, and here is Windmills, All But Borders.  It took all day yesterday to sew the blocks and rows together, and today my plan is to attach the outer borders.  I am thinking a narrow red containment border and a dark brown outer border.

Frankly, I am thrilled with the way this quilt turned out!  The layout was so random in the pattern I selected, "Windmills" by Bonnie Blue Quilts.  The random layout was perfect for a super scrappy quilt, but I wanted to showcase a specific fabric collection.  My fabric is mostly "Rachel Remembered" by Betsy Chutchian for Moda.  I added in a ton of scrappy backgrounds and a few other reds, yellows, blues and browns that coordinated well with the featured collection.  I deliberately placed the pinwheels in color themed rows which I think helped to focus on the fabrics.

So, check back tomorrow and hold me accountable for getting this top fully finished!

  1. Love your layout, good work. Glad to hear the pup is back to normal. How did he get to be 11-years-old? Eaten any shoes lately?

  2. Your attention to detail is showcased in this beautiful quilt! I’m looking forward to seeing it with those borders. Happy sewing today!
