Audition Rejection

I've been waiting patiently for some new fabric to be delivered by my postman, and it arrived a couple of days ago.  Do you recognize it?  What is showing on top of my Civil War Reproduction Christmas prints are some fatquarters of Primitive Gatherings new collection "Floral Gatherings".  I knew the reds would probably work, but wasn't so sure about the greens.   Floral Gatherings is another wonderful offering by Lisa Bongean.  She really stepped out of her comfort zone this time and included some Pepto Bismol pinks and a cheddar that rivals Velveeta in its golden yellowness.  I am saving those for another project.

But I digress.

What is it about blues and greens that they just don't play nicely with others in their color family?   As you can see, my Civil War greens are true "Christmas" green, but the Floral Gatherings are a lighter yellowish green.  Lovely color, but it really doesn't work for this combination of players.  Darn.  I guess I am going to scour the internet for some Christmassy green tone on tone prints.  Luckily I don't think I need many.  I have loads of reds for the chain design, and can get along with just a few good greens for the block design.

Here is a link to the quilt I would like to make, if you are just getting caught up with my posts.  Check out Moda Lissa's blog.

I can't seem to get my hands on a copy of the magazine (American Patchwork and Quilting Feb. 2014) yet either.  If you are a subcriber, you may have gotten your copy in the mail, but I am reduced to prowling my grocery store's magazine aisle.

I am itching to get my fabrics lined up, and get started with this project before it is Easter.

  1. Love your fabrics and hope you can find some greens to work. Methinks you should trek to your local fabric store with your chosen greens in hand and fondle lovely fabrics as you search for the shades of green that will play well with others.
I haven’t found the 2/14 issue of AP&Q magazine either but wonder why it isn’t called the 12/13 issue since it’s sold in December???? I’ve wondered about magazine issues this for a very long time.
What fun it is to choose fabrics for a happily anticipated quilt project! Enjoy the search!
    Hugs!

  2. I noticed a copy in my grocery store yesterday, but I held off since mine will arrive in the mail … sometime … I bought some precuts of the Floral Gatherings as well – I was immediately drawn to them for some reason. I think a super easy, large block quilt would be good with them.

  3. I happen to be a green lover. But you are right, as I look at your photo, they aren’t playing well. As my quilting friends always remind me… Quilting is supposed to be stress free and enjoyable. So don’t get too caught up in finding the perfect fabric.
Headed out to the local JoAnns to look for my copy of APQ magazine. Good Luck.

  4. If you cannot find the magazine I would be happy to send you copies of the appropriate pages from my magazine.

  5. I haven’t been able to find the magazine either, and don’t have a subscription to that one…checked Barnes and Noble yesterday and they don’t have it. Will check later in the week and a couple of grocery stores.

  6. I agree totally about blues and greens. I’ll put any reds together and love the results, but those blues and greens not so much.

  7. yes…I love that pattern. I just found a copy in the WalMart magazine section…..got it yesterday….can’t wait. Mine will be scrappy…….your reds are to dye for….
Thanks. happy in quilting, gloria g. Hemingway, SC

  8. I found this about the magazine issue on APQ’s website:
The February 2014 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting is on sale from December 3–February 3.
So those looking should be able to find it now.
