900 Baskets Later….

900 baskets later, I have 85 that I am going to keep in the quilt.  Here they are, not quite finished being arranged, but nearly.  Next step is to cut out and attach the striped lattice.  Thelma told me that the amount of fabric in the kit is just barely or even maybe not quite enough.  I am holding my breath that I have sufficient fabric.  No way will I be able to find more of it if I run short.

This pattern is Hill Country Baskets by Bonnie Blue Quilts.  The fabrics are a few from the kit, a few from my stash, and the rest from a layer cake of Metropolitan Fair by Barbara Brackman.  The fabrics in the kit were all very nice, but an extremely dark color palette of navys, burgundys and dark forest greens.  Just not what I felt like working with.  I went with a much lighter shade of green, true blues and cherry reds.  And a few pinks thrown in for interest and to balance out those lighter greens.

Wish me luck cutting out the lattice fabric.  It is going to take forever to cut out those stripes individually.  Stripes are a super cool look in a quilt, but goodness, they are labor intensive to get just right.

  1. This is coming along so nicely and what a beautiful quilt this is going to be. Think I like some of the lights in there and makes it warm but not dark….boy, lots of baskets there…..great job!

  4. Nicole, I love, love, love your baskets’ quilt. Your quilt makes me want to make one too. Oh no, I already have a long list of “want to make” but then I think this one is going to the top of the list. I can’t wait to see your quilt’s lattice.

  5. Nicole, I just looked at Bonnie Blue’s quilt, and I am thinking that your quilt may not need the lattice it is so beautiful now.

  6. Whoa. That is a lot of great-looking baskets! Good luck with the striped lattice. It WILL LOOK AMAZING, so have fortitude, and persevere. And if you need to take a break or two during the process, then do — the process should be fun, too.

  8. Wowza!! I love the baskets, they look great. Not sure I could stand making 900 of them. I agree with you on the lattice cuts, such a pain to do but it looks great in the end. Good luck with the cutting.
