Shiloh, Finished

Yes, finished at last.  I had a little hiccup in the final moments of this quilt when I discovered the fabric I had planned to use for the outer border had faded.  I found something else that works well, but had to order it online.  Then I went on vacation.

I cannot wait for this to be quilted and on my bed!

I started this quilt in December 2010.  Really.  This quilt took forever for me to make, mainly because I kept putting it away and starting something else.  Then I moved.  Then I didn't have a studio.  When my sewing space was up and running, this truly was the first quilt I put up on my design wall.  Some things are truly worth seeing through to the end.

The pattern is "Shiloh" by Bonnie Blue Quilts, designed by Paula Barnes.  This quilt actually started out as a kit.  And you know me and kits.  The greens were too dark, there was too much red… I ended up not using most of the fabrics in the kit.  Well, I may have used the lights, but the darks just weren't to my taste.  I had a layer cake on hand called "Arnold's Attic" desgined by Barbara Brackman for Moda.  Boy, am I glad I had that, because adding it into the mix really made this quilt come alive for me.  I loved the lighter greens and the warm browns and delicious rusts and golds.  This quilt has an inner light that shines through–a real sparkle.

It may have taken me awhile, but this quilt is one I am proud to have finished.

  1. Nicole, this quilt is just stunning. Look at all the perfect points – definitely worth the wait! I think this might be my favourite quilt of yours – even overtaking ‘Birdseye’, which I didn’t think possible! The colours are gorgeous – I especially like your greens & rusts – and the dark brown border sets it off perfectly. I hope your quilter gives this quilt the star treatment it deserves.

  2. Shiloh is absolutely beautiful and was, as you said, well worth waiting for! Your Flying Geese border was the crowning touch of perfection, too! Applause, applause! Hope you’re happy dancing in delight at your wonderful accomplishment!!!!
    You’re an inspiration, my friend!
    Hugs!

  3. Another stunning quilt Nicole! I’m getting ready to cut into my River Road kit from Red Crinoline Quilts. I really like their patterns. I like that you added Arnold’s Attic fabric to you quilt.

  4. This quilt is wonderful!! I’ve had my eye on this pattern for awhile…sorry I didn’t purchase it. I will NOW! Love it!

  5. Wow, you are on a roll! I love Arnold’s Attic…such a beautiful line! Congrats on another finish for 2013 🙂

  6. Great job Nicole, you’re really cranking out the finishes for 2013! I’ve got to get going on my Shiloh. I think the darker outer border fabric looks better than the light brown you had originally hoped to use, the quilt fairies were looking out for you on that one! Lovely, lovely quilt!

  7. It really is beautiful. I’m glad you’ve finally finished it. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to get it quilted. By the way, how big is it?

  9. It looks magnificent Nicole! Well done. I’m sure you will love it all that little bit more because it took so long too. There’s a lotta little triangles in that quilt! Great effort.

  10. Your quilt is just gorgeous. The colours are really lovely and that pattern is great. I’m going to see if I can find it to add to the to do list! You are a very good advertisement for the Bonnie Blue patterns.
