Ridiculously Cute Basket Blocks

In spite of an insane work schedule this week, I have dived into finishing up one of my UFOs from last year.  I call this project the Ridiculously Cute Basket Quilt.  The pattern is an old Miss Rosie one called MoJo and the fabrics are the wonderful Simple Abundance by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

Isn't this just the most cheerful looking project?  The quilt is comprised of nine large blocks (of four basket blocks each).  There will be a scrappy lattice between all the blocks, and a half square triangle border, then a print outer border.  Still plenty of sewing to do!

On Monday, the first Monday of 2011, I got to work at 9:30 with my assistant manager, and we walked in to a telephone call from the third employee who was supposed to work, saying that she was ill.  No one else could come in to work with us, so it was just us two the entire day.  Because the store is on two levels, it meant that neither of us got a break or lunch or even a sit down for nine hours.  I was beat when I got home, I tell you.  That is a heck of a long time to stand up.

I was off on Tuesday, hence the progress on my quilt project.  Today I work a late afternoon shift, so with any luck I will complete my lattices in the earlier part of the day.  Not really looking forward to going back to work…

But the good news is, I have the weekend off.  I am planning a graduation party for my son on Sunday, with a major surprise tossed in.  Can't say more now, but stay tuned!

  1. I love that quilt! I can’t wait to see your progress! I just adore that fabric too. Missed the boat on that one. Sounds like you are going to have quite the weekend.

  2. Love the baskets and, as usual, stand amazed at your creative speed! Impressive! Scrappy quilts are the quilts I like best!
Oh, a surprise! I cannot wait to hear all about it!
Hope you have a calmer work day with more staff on hand to make it easier.
    Hugs!

  4. Hmmm… a baby and a wedding. I bet someone is getting engaged to that lovely Irish lass that you’re already so fond of. 🙂
Simple Abundance ~ still love that fabric. And Ridiculously Cute Baskets is a perfect name for that quilt.

  5. Those are indeed ridiculously cute baskets! And I’m with Carrie….I bet we see another addition to the family after this weekend!

  6. That is a darling quilt…glad you’re finishing it. It will feel good to have it done and then you’ll get it to have it just in time for spring.
    Surprise, surprise…to quote Gomer Pyle.

  7. I have that Mojo pattern and someday I’ll make one! It is a lot of cutting and piecing, absolutely, but you’re so far along already. Love your colorway!
At least at your work you are able to walk around, even if you can’t sit. Do you throw in a few stretches and knee bends when there are no customers, LOL?
Looking forward to hearing about Aron’s party

  8. Can’t wait to see it finished! I finally finished my daughter’s graduation quilt from college…it was suppose to be done this past May!

  9. Remember, I’m new to your blog…is your son graduating from college?
And, I HOPE that the store paid you a bonus or overtime. The staffing problems are their problem not yours. Sorry, I don’t mean to get testy but come on…9 hours without a break? Cruel.

  10. I hope you are taking things easy now Your boss should give you a big bonus For what you did.I love surprises.
    Hugs Mary.

  11. oh the baskets are so sweet…. I hope Friday to be able to sew most of the day. Didn’t have much time over the holidays. Oh surprises are fun.

  12. Your basket quilt is lovely. Hey, they don’t call it work for nothing but is that legal not giving you meal breaks? I say you deserve double time for your pay.

  13. you are right. I never thought of baskets as being cheerful but the setting does it. I don’t blame you for being excited to work on it.
