Union Square at Christmas

We spent Sunday in San Francisco!  We went to Union Square, saw the Christmas tree, shopped til we dropped, had an amazing lunch, and finished things off with drinks at the Grand Hyatt.

The tree was great.  Every year I wonder how they got such a huge tree erected in the middle of a big city square, but there you are, they do it over and over again, every year, without fail.

The shopping was amazing.  Sara and I made friends with make up artists at Saks Fifth Ave, Neiman Marcus, and Macy's.  Seriously, we have new BFFs for life.   Sara, being a bit more flush these days than I am, actually was able to make some purchases.  By the time we got to lunch at the Grand Cafe on Geary Street we felt like we looked pretty glam.

Lunch was (hold onto your hats) lobster salad club sandwiches with truffle fries.  Oh, and I had a Ramos Gin Fizz.  Wonderful.  My husband had an omlette, which he swore was wonderful, but he had no idea NO IDEA what he was missing.  Lobster salad?  I think there must be no better way to eat lobster.

  1. There’s nothing more fun than a Mother/Daughter make over, you both look great, as usual…..The tree at Union Square is lovely, but what’s even more amazing……no winter coats, not a one, wow, how do you manage living with such brutal weather, practice I guess……

  2. What a lovely post Nicole – I had 2 very happy years living in SF a very long time ago – met my husband there, so it must have been good! – you brought back lots of happy memories. It’s a fabulous city and absolutely the best place to eat out ever!!

  3. Beautiful! Wait – just read your post about 4 back? Are you one of the three ladies who took Carrie’s classes in St. Charles? It’s got to be you! I can’t believe I found you on a blog by way of Jaybird!!

We awoke to snow today and all is a beautiful winter wonderland.
You’ll be proud of me: binding and label made and ready for DS1’s quilt! Now I just need the quilt but should have it Wednesday, weather permitting.
    Hugs!

  5. It looks like a wonderful day. And a Ramos Gin Fizz.. haven’t had one in 25 years I bet, was it delicious? I haven’t even thought about them. I must remedy that.

  6. This sounds like something I should do with my daughter next year! Love the picture, by the way. That’s a keeper. And lobster to boot!!

we were there for Christmas a few years ago . . . this year we were there for Easter . . . took the girls to Macy’s to make Easter bonnets . . . what fun that was !!

  8. I LOVE Union Square! When I lived in Sacramento, we would go every year for Christmas. That’s where I went in my first Tiffany’s. Then we’d get Joseph Schmidt Slicks (I don’t think they’re around anymore. Sad.) and chocolate covered potato chips at Nieman Marcus. Is Nosh’s still there? I’m so jealous. Your pictures take me back. It’s beautiful.

  9. I love traveling during the holidays…and I haven’t been to San Francisco for sooo many years…truly I’m going to have to get back up there!
