Batik Love

Gracious, how did it get to be February already?  I spent the entire weekend fighting a virus that had me down, but not out.  I had three long days of sewing.  I finished one top, worked on some batik blocks and started a new project.

Aren't those periwinkle and purple batiks yummy?  My goal is to make a bunch of the blocks each week, and have the 50 I need in a jiffy.  Since I get home from my new job around 4:15, I should be able to get in an hour a day before I need to start dinner.

Here is a close up on one block so you can see the construction better–

You can tell they go together in no time.  I even changed my banner in honor of the Batik Challenge!  I made the green and black quilt pictured in the close up a couple of years ago for my son.  He has it on his bed down in Santa Margarita where he lives while he is going to graduate school at Cal Poly.

So, did your favorite team win the Big Game?  Super Bowl Sunday is traditionally a great day for shopping (no crowds at the mall) as well as for sewing (husbands in front of TV).  Hope you made the best of your weekend and spent it just the way you wanted to!

  1. Nicole, I noticed the Banner quilt immediately, it is absolutely beautiful. You are going to town on the Batiks and they are turning out so yummy. Can’t wait to see the final outcome. I know it will take my breath away as purple is my favorite color so anything including purples is of great interest to me. Also, you sound like you are really enjoying your new job. I’m so happy for you.

  2. Hi Nicole,
I’ve been web surfing trying to find others working on teh Web Sampler III BOM. So far just you and Stashmaster. I’ve just started block 1…lol..My thinking is if I find others perhaps I’ll stick with it!
    All your work looks great!

  3. Sorry to hear you were sick this weekend. It still looks like you got a lot done. The purple batik blocks are wonderful, as is the quilt you made for your son.

  4. It was fun to see your new banner and recognize a lot of the batiks that I have in my stash. I’m afraid I don’t have enough scraps left to do anything with, and economy prevents me from buying more at this time, so….I shall have to live vicariously through you and enjoy what you are producing. I’m sure it will be beautiful.

  5. Those batiks are so pretty! That’s too bad you were sick this weekend but still managed to get some sewing in. I ended up taking care of a sick pet during the Super Bowl, no sewing or shopping for me 🙁
