Sister’s Choice

img_0608.jpg

Since I didn’t get much of a chance to sew this past weekend, my posts this week will mostly be about future projects I have been contemplating, or completed projects I would like to share with you.

The quilt pictured above is one that I gave to my sister a few years ago.  The pattern is one of my favorite blocks, for which this blog is named:  "Sister’s Choice".  We had a heck of a time getting a good photo of this quilt, because the peachy background fabric looked rather insipid in our first tries.  Hunting for the perfect peaches, sage greens and black florals was greatly satisfying.  The hunt for the exactly right fabric is the best part of quiltmaking!  The quilt has a rather Victorian feel, despite the fact that some of the fabrics I used were batiks.  I like the way the center of the quilt seems to float on the surrounding black floral border.

  1. I should give credit to the quilter on this one. She is a very talented woman named Toni Silvera. She teaches classes at some of our area quiltshops, and has told me that she plans to write a book on the subject of machine quilting. And that if she does, she needs this quilt back to photograph for her book!

  2. Very pretty quilt – my comment was also about the quilting. Just beautiful, the quilter did a wonderful job. Was it done on a long arm or regular machine?

  3. You have such a beautiful blog! And I thank you kindly for visiting mine! This quilt is just beautiful; I am always amazed at the time and love women put into these, just as in days past. I have a Thousand Pyramids quilt made by my great grandmother… even though I never met her, she makes me happy & warm with her quilt!
